WordPress makes it significantly easier to go from “zero” to “fully functioning website that looks good.” When it comes to how easy it is to build a website with each platform, WordPress is the clear winner. He had the unique lift of the waltz-rhythm at his command, and the unquestioned respect of the Vienna Philharmonic’s famously individualistic musicians, as these treasurable recordings demonstrate. Most of the sweetest Straussian lollipops are here, such as the Blue Danube and the Radetzky March, but so too are lesser-known treasures such as Die Libelle (The Dragonfly) and the Vergnügungszug Polka: in their different ways both supreme examples of Viennese light music, and conducted by Krauss with a lightness of touch perhaps rivalled since only by Carlos Kleiber.Īs specialists in the idioms of ‘both’ Strausses – Richard and the Waltz King’s family – this pair of conductors was unique. A new editorial note by the opera director and critic Mike Ashman gives context to the stupendous popularity of the Strauss family’s music, both in their time and ever since, to the all-too-short career of Krauss and to the tradition of the New Year concerts in Vienna. The various ‘New Year’s Concert’ albums are now presented together in a 2CD set. For each of the previous years, Krauss and the Vienna Philharmonic had gone into the studio during the summer to set down a mix of waltzes and polkas which would, when released shortly after the concert proper, make a memento of the occasion for its increasingly worldwide audience on radio. He it was who conducted the first New Year’s Day concert in 1939, and continued to lead the occasion on each new year until his death in May 1954, but only beginning with the second half of that 1954 concert was the event recorded for commercial release. Of all the conductors who have championed the music of the Strauss family with the Vienna Philharmonic, it is Clemens Krauss who was one of the greatest pioneers. ![]() Strauss, Josef: Plappermäulchen - polka schnell, Op. Simple, practical, and attractive, such wall claddings are back in demand once more. When factory millwork became available in the Victorian era, decorative beaded boards routinely covered walls in utility areas such as kitchens and baths. While the wealthy had fancy woodwork, most homes featured flat-backed claddings similar to those used on the exterior-usually boards with interlocking “lapped” or tongue-and-groove joints to keep out water and cold winds. Walls that were not plastered were often paneled. Later, vertical boards were nailed to studs, often with a decorative bead or chamfered V along their edges. In the second case, I really really lost you and I'm still confused about what the first sentence means (so, does it mean "everything will change" or not? It's a linguistic barrier for me). Accepting that their love is over will bring the singer no peace. The lyrics are referring to internal peace. He will choose to fight and die because there's no other way. If the words lead towards a tomorrow without peace, then obviously accepting those words does too. I just get everything is over and tomorrow will have no peace, regardless. I still fail to see anything related to accepting what happened = there will be no peaceful tomorrow. What do you think Spike refers to when he talks about the "dream" he is/was (voluntarily?) trapped in? Why do you think Spike went to claim Vicious' life, saying he wanted proof of being alive despite knowing it was a suicide and despite his friends trying to make him change his mind? This seems pointless - to Jet and Faye for sure -, but in Spike's eyes, it's probably the only thing he has left to do, since he's unable to recognise the value of his present relationships (like the cat that lived with countless owners but never loved anyone except the white cat) and Julia, a part of himself who made him feel whole, died. Thus, rather than having awakened to reality and trying to prove he's alive, it looks more like he's still living in the past and deliberately looking to die while achieving vengeance. It seems to confirm the story he told Jet, the eternal cat that finally dies after crying for the loss of his only true beloved one, but fitting Jet's story even more: humans frantically search in their past for proof of having lived, before dying. In the aforementioned last argument, Spike tells Faye that he wants to find out if he's really alive, but I think he doesn't really answer her question: "why are you going there if you know you're going to die?", as it sounds contradicting that one would want to prove being alive by going to die, knowing it's a suicide. Spike's reason for going back and fight Vicious at the end, after Julia is killed, is apparently nothing more than revenge, like what happened with Mao and Annie (instance where Julia realises they aren't fleeing as he won't let her death go unavenged), but there's more: "proving if I'm alive". And why would Julia say "it's all a dream"? What is it? During the last argument with Faye, he claims he wanted to live in an everlasting "dream", but he's finally awaken (after Julia's death), as if that brought him back to reality, although he's already been clashing with his past several times. In Ballad, he tells Vicious he lives in a dream from which he can't awake. So he's quite trying to ignore his past (act which I at first assumed was the "dream"), but at the same time, if this same past comes near, he immediately packs and departs to chase it (Ballad of Fallen Angels, Jupiter Jazz 1 and 2, The Real Folk Blues 1), supposedly popping the very bubble he claims to be in. Throughout the show, Spike isn't actively trying to go after Vicious or find Julia, unless he hears word about them or their whereabouts from other people. Something I feel I kind of missed and I think is important to understand the finale is the concept of Spike's "dream", together with Julia's last words "it's all a dream". ![]() I would like to know your opinion and share mine for a lovely discussion. I have also come to realise that at present it is far too easy for LUTs to behave inconsistently between bits of software (or cameras). I have worked to make the tools familiar to me in my work with film and video cameras for example colour temperature can be set directly but also with a CTO / CTB slider akin to lighting gels. Many of my clients do not currently want or need log, and I frequently bake-in my personalised looks developed with LUTCalc. ![]() The charts and exposure values have also helped me to understand the way that modern cameras handle wide exposure ranges giving me good, consistent results. If shooting log I also make grading versions so that post can start off working with 'my' look. I use it to create MLUTs for the Sony F cameras I currently most often use. I have written LUTCalc from scratch to help me with my day to day work. My name is Ben Turley and I am a professional lighting cameraman and DoP in the UK. What began as a hobby gradually became more of an obsession which has developed into a flexible tool for creating and then shooting with 'looks'. It started out as a simple spreadsheet for generating S-Log2 exposure shift LUTs for Sony's F5 and F55 cameras. LUTCalc is a desktop app for generating, analysing and previewing 1D and 3D Lookup Tables (LUTs) for video cameras that shoot log gammas. ![]() |
